What is it in life that you want?

Today I was thinking about a question someone once asked me. The answer I gave them is inevitably different than what my answer would be if I was asked the same question again. The question that keeps ringing my brain on thought is, "What is it that you want in life, is there a way you wish your life to go or are you a day-by-day person?"
I believe everyone has a different answer for this question and perhaps the answers are similar but totally unique to the person. If I was asked this question my answer would be that I didn't know. So much has happened in my life and what I want changes so much. Do I want to be remembered as a remarkable surgeon or do I want to be named the bravest police officer. Perhaps I want to be remembered as a spiritual writer with a big heart full of passion and someone who succeeded what anyone had thought way above the potential I was believed to have. I believe it is to oneself what they want and though I want to leave this world with something special be it my beautiful family growing in a home that me and my wife will share with our children and grandchildren built from a small dream and pure love and a family full of love and strength. It's everyone's preference that changes. I believe simplifying it I would simply say I want my life to be lived fully and to be remembered as a caring and loving friend, wife and mother.
I was sitting on the couch working on my writing while my fiancé was working on her painting and I asked her this very question, after all it is a question worth asking the person, you want to spend your life with. She looked at me and said, "with you love that's what I want, a family and a home."
The love she has for me is the love she wants to share with our children, she spoke of living day by day. Something she once said to me was that every day is special. My fiancé shows a different way of living, but still much like mine. This shows people have much alike opinions and wants, but slightly different. You can have a big dream, but still want to live day by day, to take everything in and not miss a thing.
Perhaps people are afraid of what could be and that scares people to know that some just don't know what they want out of their lives. My grandmother the oldest of three children was speaking on this such topic how in her late teens she was getting married and all she dreamed of was having a happy, loving family. She hadn't thought at the time of what she wanted for herself in life. A heartbreaking tragedy was thrown at her and the life she thought she would have changed. A new life she wanted for herself, and her babies was then created. My grandmother had to make sacrifices and then began to think of what she wanted she worked at her mother's restaurant until she was sure she had enough and started investing into land and she started working on houses. Now at 79 she has 5 houses she built from the ground up. She never imagined throughout her life she would be living the life she is. Going from having barely any with tiny dreams to full dreams and all the money she needs to survive, and a home for each of her kids to ensure when she was gone, they always had a home.
My grandmother, fiancé and I are among many people who show that what you want in life will change and can be distant from what others want. My grandmother made her life of happiness and showed her grandchildren that life can be what you dream of it being or it can be what you make it. I want to share that with you, because I feel as though it made me realize what I wanted in life. If you have ambitions and truly think about what you want out of your life it is possible and it's okay to change what you want to ensure you are able to achieve complete satisfaction.
Love to all Haley Watkins.
